Pūkeko

Every time I see a Pūkeko running around, pecking the grass, or generally strutting around, it makes me smile.

Their bright orange colours stand out a mile against their dark blue body. It is this great contrast that inspired the insertion of the pāua shell to replace one of these bright natural orange colours in this work.

This pāua shell insert on the head piece of the Pūkeko gives a feeling of purpose and direction. The bird itself is in a pose that conjures up thoughts of pride, experience, and leadership.

Let us each follow this bold bird and stride into the next chapters of our life like this 'Pāua Pūkeko.'

Dimensions	500 mm x 500 mm
Production	Solid wooden frames with composite layers that are hand painted with acrylic and oil-based paints. Pieces of thin shell are added as inlay details, and clear epoxy resin used to provide visual emphasis.
