History of Busblinds
The traditional Bus-blind is a printing role of canvas used to show the stops along a route for an old red London bus. With this canvas unrolled it displays a list of place names.
Bus blind art, also known as bus sign art, is a form of art that involves the use of old bus destination signs to create colourful and unique pieces of art. The history of bus blind art can be traced back to the 1980s when artists in the United Kingdom began to experiment with reusing discarded bus destination signs.
The first known use of bus blinds as a form of art was in 1980 when the British artist Peter Blake used them in his work, creating a series of collages made up of bus blind letters and images. This inspired other artists to explore the potential of bus blinds as a medium for their work.
In the 1990s, bus blind art became more popular as artists began to use the signs to create large-scale installations and public art projects. One of the most famous examples is the "Everyman" installation by the artist Ian Hamilton Finlay, which features the word "Everyman" in large letters made from bus blinds.
Bus blind art has continued to evolve over the years, with artists using the signs to create a wide range of works, from abstract collages to representational pieces that feature images and text. Some artists have even incorporated working electronic displays into their installations, adding a dynamic element to the art.
In recent years, bus blind art has become more widely recognised as a legitimate form of contemporary art. Many museums and galleries now feature works made from bus blinds in their collections, and there are even dedicated exhibitions and festivals that showcase this unique form of art.
Busblinds Today
The modern interpretation for a Busblind allows us to create lists of places, names, and memorable things that can then be displayed in your home, office or anywhere needing a stylish word art design.
The words and phrases used are not limited to a vertical list - although there is a certain classic style to this look. As I design your BusBlind I can use different fonts, colours and layouts along with photos, icons or illustrations.
This is a very popular design product and so I have a dedicated website that shows the different options, shapes, styles and design ideas. Have a look through the gallery images to get inspired and then place your order and we will create your perfect personalised work of art.
